One generation builds the road the next is going to travel on

In 2012 we conducted a national Delphi study to assess the relevance of the currently taught practical skills for future doctors. The goal of the study was to let experts define the future relevance of certain skills. Which skills are essential for doctors in 2025? Which trends are predicted for the medicine of tomorrow?

This study is part of the “Teachers of Tomorrow: Development of a generic, modular curriculum for the education of student peer teachers” project.

Methods

The preparations for the study began in January 2012. The first step involved searching the literature on the current changes in health-care and on concepts for the teaching of practical skills. The Delphi study was based on interviews with 15 experts. The actual study started in June 2012. The results are currently being analyzed.
